ATM News Network : In a significant move to provide much-needed relief to onion farmers, the Maharashtra state government has announced a substantial subsidy of Rs 350 per quintal, with a maximum limit of 200 quintals per farmer for onions sold between February 1 and March 31, 2023.
First Phase Commences With 3 Lakh Farmers Set to Benefit
The initial phase of this groundbreaking subsidy distribution was officially launched today after a Cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Marketing Minister Abdul Sattar. Under this phase, an impressive sum of Rs 300 crore will be disbursed online to assist a total of three lakh onion farmers.
Direct Bank Transfers to Aid Onion Farmers in 15 Districts
This proactive initiative aims to directly deposit the subsidy into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries across 15 districts, including Nagpur, Raigad, Sangli, Satara, Thane, Amravati, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Wardha, Latur, Yavatmal, Akola, Jalna, and Washim. Notably, these districts have a subsidy demand of less than 10 crores for onions.
In the first phase, farmers in Nashik, Osmanabad, Pune, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Dhule, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, and Beed, who have a demand of more than 10 crores for onion subsidy, will also receive crucial support. Farmers with payments up to 10 thousand rupees will be entitled to the full subsidy, while beneficiaries with payments exceeding 10 thousand rupees will receive a grant of 10 thousand rupees each in this initial phase.
The government is committed to ensuring that this subsidy reaches those who need it most, offering a lifeline to onion farmers during this critical period. As the first phase kicks off, anticipation builds for the impending relief for countless more farmers in the second phase of distribution.
