ATM News Network: Sahyadri Farmer Producer Company Limited of Dindori in Nashik district has taken a step forward and has now established a private agricultural market. Therefore, an alternative and capable market system has been created for the farmers in Nashik district, and Sahyadri is the first farmer producer organisation in the country to get a license for private agricultural market.
The number of private market licensees in the state is increasing day by day, Sahyadri Former Producer Company Ltd. has obtained a private market license under the name "Sahyadri Farmers Private Agriculture Market Ltd. Mohadi, Didori, Nashik". The company is ready to work this grape season. Trials in this regard will begin in mid-January and will continue smoothly till the end of the season in mid-April.
The Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Purchase Development and Regulation Act, 1963 has been amended 20 times to include provisions for single licensing of direct marketing private market. Direct licenses are issued through the Directorate of Marketing to various individuals/companies/organizations, farmers, farmer groups etc. for direct purchase of agricultural commodities from farmers. At present there are 1460 direct marketing license holders working in the state and the turnover of said license holders in the year 2021-22 is Rs.1368 crore.
A single license is issued for direct purchase of agricultural produce in one or more market premises. The said license is valid for 1 year and can be renewed every year. The number of said licensees in the year 2024-25 is 33 and their turnover is Rs 5,56,397 crore.
Also, licenses are given for setting up private markets with a view to investing private funds to change the marketing system and providing alternative market system to the farmers. At present there are 73 private market license holders in the state. Their turnover in the year 2021-22 is Rs 4,557.84 crore.
