Ministry predicts record production of these crops
ATM News Network: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released second advance estimates of the production of major crops for the agricultural year 2022-23. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the foodgrains production is estimated at 3235.54 lakh tonnes in the current agricultural year.
He said that due to the hard work of the farmers, the expertise of the scientists and the farmer welfare policies of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the agriculture sector is developing day by day.
Appreciating the increase in the production of coarse grains as per the advance forecast, Tomar hoped that the production and consumption of coarse grains/nutritional grains would increase further in the coming years. According to the second advance estimate, the estimated production of major crops for 2022-23 is as follows:
Food grains - 3235.54 lakh tonnes (record)
Rice - 1308.37 lakh tonnes (record)
Wheat - 1121.82 lakh tonnes (record)
Nutrient / Coarse Cereals - 527.26 lakh tonnes
Maize - 346.13 lakh tonnes (record)
Barley - 22.04 lakh tonnes (record)
Total pulses - 278.10 lakh tonnes. (record)
Gram - 136.32 lakh tonnes. (record)
Moong – 35.45 lakh tonnes. (record)
Oilseeds - 400.01 lakh tonnes. (record)
Groundnut - 100.56 lakh tonnes.
Soybeans - 139.75 lakh tonnes.
Rapeseed and Mustard - 128.18 lakh tonnes. (record)
Cotton - 337.23 lakh bales (170 kg each)
Sugarcane – 4687.89 lakh tonnes (record)
Jute and Mesta – 100.49 lakh bales (180 kg each)
The total foodgrain production in the country is estimated to be a record 3235.54 lakh tonnes, which is 79.38 LMT higher than the previous year 2021-22. The total production of rice is estimated to be 1308.37 lakh tonnes in the year 2022-23. This production is 13.65 lakh tonnes more than last year's total production.
The production of various crops is projected as per the second advance estimate for the year 2022-23. Comparative estimates for the following period from the year 2012-13 onwards have been appended.
