ATM News Network: The current government is very sensitive towards the small farmers of the country, and has raised the issue of food grains in the United Nations. The Government of India's resolution was passed with the support of 72 countries and the year 2023 is now being celebrated as the International Year of Millet as per the United Nations declaration.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed that the main objective of the government is to increase the production and productivity, processing and export of food grains. Union Minister Tomar gave this information as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the International Trade Fair on Millets and Organic Products in Bengaluru.
Minister Tomar said that millet crops can be grown with less water and also help in increasing the income of farmers. As the production and consumption of cereals in the country increases, its exports will also increase, benefiting the farmers to a large extent. He appreciated the efforts of the Karnataka government to increase the production and consumption of food grains. Also MoUs worth Rs 50 thousand crores were signed.
The central and state governments are implementing many important schemes for the welfare of farmers including increasing their income. An annual assistance of Rs 6,000 is being provided to farmers through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. Apart from this, additional annual assistance of Rs 4,000 each is being provided to farmers in Karnataka.
The government has targeted to set up 10,000 new Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in the country, spending Rs 6,865 crore from the Government of India. He appreciated the enthusiastic contribution to the creation of new FPOs across the country.
