India's agricultural exports have touched an all-time high of USD 50.21 billion in the financial year 2021-22, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
An increase in agricultural exports improves the income of farmers and has a positive impact on their income. To enable farmers to benefit from exports, the government has set up the Farmer Connect Portal. This is to provide a platform for Farmer Producer Organisations/Companies (FPOs/FPCs) and cooperatives to communicate directly with exporters.
The government has taken several measures at the state and district levels to promote agricultural exports. A state-level action plan has been prepared. State Level Monitoring Committees (SLMCs), Nodal Agencies for agricultural exports and Cluster Level Committees have been set up in many states.
The government is using the District as Export Hub (DEH) initiative to achieve the objectives of the Agricultural Export Policy (AEP). Under the DEH initiative, products including agricultural produce and processed food with export potential have been selected in all 733 districts of the country. 28 states/UTs have formulated state export policies.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (Apeda) has continuously worked and played an important role in promoting the export of agricultural and processed food products. Apeda is implementing the 'Agricultural and Processed Foodstuffs Export Promotion Scheme'. Under the various components of the scheme, various development activities are carried out and exporters are supported.
