IMD Predicts Improved Rainfall in the Coming Weeks after a Dry August

The agricultural sector, in particular, has borne the brunt of this rainfall deficit, with double sowing exacerbating the challenges faced by farmers. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) offers a glimmer of hope, forecasting an upturn in rainfall intensity across the state.

Maharashtra has witnessed only 91 percent of its expected monsoon rainfall so far this season, with Central Maharashtra experiencing a notable shortfall. Fortunately, the latest IMD forecast indicates a resurgence of the monsoon, promising substantial rainfall in various parts of the state.

A Rainy Outlook for September

While August proved to be unusually dry in India, marked as the driest since 1901, meteorological conditions may soon turn in favor of Maharashtra. El Niño patterns have been a contributing factor to the reduced rainfall, impacting the state as well. However, expectations are high for a shift in September.

IMD's forecast predicts the revival of rains in Maharashtra in the first week of September, with heavier downpours anticipated in the second week. The rain forecast extends to encompass the South Peninsula, Central India, including Maharashtra (Marathwada), Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, and the Kerala coast.

Agricultural Relief in Sight

Farmers, who have anxiously awaited the return of rains as their crops faced adversity due to the dry spell, may finally see some relief. Signs of resumption in monsoon showers are welcomed as the agricultural sector strives to recuperate from a challenging period.

While the forecast holds promise, it's worth noting that the expected rainfall is likely to be less than average. The IMD anticipates that the month of September will bring about average rainfall levels across the country, with an estimated 167.9 mm of precipitation.
