ATM News Network: The second week of the budget session of the Maharashtra Legislature began on Wednesday. Unseasonal rains have wreaked havoc in the state. Farmers have suffered huge losses in many districts of Maharashtra. Crops along with livestock have been uprooted. Therefore, Leader of the Opposition Ajit Pawar today proposed an adjournment proposal that the government should take an immediate decision on the issue of farmers.
In this background, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave detailed information in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. Fadnavis said, "A total of 13,729 hectares of crops damaged in eight districts due to sudden unseasonal rains. In Palghar, mangoes and cashew nut flowers or mohar have been damaged in 760 hectares in Vikramgad and Jawhar areas. In Nashik, wheat, vegetables, grapes and mangoes have been damaged in 2,685 hectares in Kalwan, Nashik, Trimbakeshwar, Niphad and other tehsils.
In Dhule, Sakhri, Shinkheda, and Shirpur, 3144 hectares have been damaged. Maize, wheat, gram, sorghum, banana, and papaya have been damaged. In Nandurbar, 1,576 hectares of maize, wheat, gram, sorghum, banana and mango have been damaged in Nandurbar, Nawapur, Akkalkuwa, Shahada, Taloda and Akrani.
In Bhusawal, Dharangaon and Jalgaon, wheat, maize, sorghum, and bananas have been damaged on 214 hectares. Meanwhile, in the Ahmednagar districts of Rahuri, Nevasa, Akole, and Kopargaon, 4,100 hectares of maize, wheat, onion and vegetables have been damaged. On the other hand, maize, wheat, onion, sorghum, and gram have been damaged on 775 hectares at Nandura in the Buldhana district. In Washim, total of 13,729 hectares of wheat, gram and fruit crops have been damaged in four talukas on 475 hectares.
Meanwhile, the opposition cited damage in other areas. Fadnavis replied that the government is still in the process of surveying; the full picture will be clear after information comes from the administration.
