ATM News Network: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has signed an MoU with Amazon Kisan to bring together and create synergy between the two organisations in order to guide farmers on scientifically cultivating various crops for maximum production and income.
Under this MoU, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research will provide technical support to farmers through Amazon's network. This will improve the standard of living of farmers and increase crop production. This MoU in farmers' partnership with the Amazon Kisan program will help ensure availability of high-quality fresh produce to consumers across India with Amazon Fresh.
Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General, ICAR, emphasized on the purchase of other agricultural products, i.e. ancillary farming, so that the farmers get better remuneration. Highlighted the importance and role of critical inputs in agriculture and seasonal cropping schemes. ICAR will collaborate with Amazon for technology, capacity building and knowledge transfer, he said.
On behalf of ICAR, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) Dr U S Gautam and Siddharth Tata, Senior Product Head, Amazon Fresh Supply Chain and Kisan, signed the MoU. The results of a pilot project initiated in Pune by ICAR-KVK and Amazon have encouraged further expansion of collaboration to expand precision agriculture practices developed through extensive research.
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra will strengthen the broad spectrum of farmers by supporting technology through technology transfer and capacity building programmes. ICAR and Amazon will work together on other farmer engagement programs at the Agricultural Science Centres.
Will conduct demonstrations, trials and capacity building activities to increase farming practices and farm profitability. Amazon will also provide training support and help farmers market their produce through an online platform, which will provide direct contact with consumers.
