ATM News Network: The poultry business is considered one of the most vulnerable businesses. The poultry business faces challenges from all fronts. Whether it’s administrative, or policy decisions, the spread of any disease or even misinformation can lead to losses in the poultry business. Despite all this India is the world’s 2nd largest egg producer and third largest chicken producer after China and the USA.
With the efforts of Indian poultry farmers by focusing on the food and nutritional security of the nation, the Indian poultry business has collectively become a phenomenal 120,000 crore industry and one of the prime sectors supporting agriculture in the country.
The poultry business is becoming unpredictable due to changing climatic conditions. The business is affected even by sudden changes in weather conditions like unseasonal rains and heat waves. Currently, the state of Maharashtra is facing similar issues. Most parts in the state are experiencing unseasonal rains, hailstorms, and heatwaves at the same time.
In such a situation Agri Trade Media contacted Poultry Industry Expert and renowned business personality, director of Anand Agro Mr. Uddhav Ahire. He said that, in actuality, the demand for poultry products has increased due to the holiday season. The heatwave has not yet had such an impact on business. The birds are healthy and the rates have increased by Rs 20 this week.
In such conditions, poultry businesses must take care of their birds. In conditions of a heatwave, the birds usually don’t eat the feed in the afternoon due to increased temperatures. It can be avoided by using cooling methods. Secondly, it only affects the weight of the birds, as they become lighter. It can be corrected by taking the necessary precautions”, added Mr. Ahire.
In many parts of the country, the farmers have brought the chicks to market fearing the fluctuating prices and high mortality rate in increasing temperatures. Many farmers have taken an exit from the business in recent times due to increased rates of feeds and medicines. It has created a shortfall in supply and the prices of chicken are increasing in the market. Other factors too have affected the market, but currently, the poultry business is stable as per the market conditions, so far.
