ATM News Network: A farmer producer company from Purandar taluka of Pune district has successfully exported India's first commercial consignment of 550 kg of GI-tagged Purandar figs to Hong Kong, reports Apeda quoting Indian Express.
Informing about this export Rohan Ursal, director of Purandar Highlands said that the goods were exported on February 10. The shipment was successful and well received after receiving detailed feedback from the importing client. This has led to an interest in importing countries for further orders. We are now exporting to Malaysia and other countries.
It was a joint effort between Purandar Highlands and Sion Agricos. To support the campaign, the merchandise was branded for the Tourism Ministry's Incredible India's 'Visit India 2023' campaign.
Ursal said that they are conducting small-scale experiments to understand the logistics required for export. Fruits need to be harvested properly and packed properly to extend their shelf life.
Members and the Board of Directors of Purandar Highlands are from the Purandar and Baramati divisions of the Pune district. These members are working to produce quality figs and cilantro in this area.
Ursal said they have promised to supply around 450-550 kg of export-quality figs every week in case of high demand. He said they have received orders to export to Malaysia as well.
Bayer Crop Science, a leading farmer-producer organisation and agri-investment company, is working to develop farmers and ensure the harvest of export-quality fruits. After a successful trial of small consignments, they decided to export commercial consignments.
Interestingly, this export comes after the first sample consignment was sent to Hamburg, Germany and some European Union countries.
