ATM News Network : The G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting, which took place over the past three days, concluded on Saturday with the adoption of the common outcome document. The report, titled 'Outcome Document and Chair's Summary,' reaffirmed the commitment of all G20 Agriculture Ministers to ensuring food security and nutrition for all through the promotion of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agriculture and food systems.
The outcome document emphasised the urgent need for action on food security and nutrition, recognising the pressing challenges faced by the agriculture sector globally. The consensus was achieved following extensive deliberations on various issues at the heart of the agricultural industry during the three-day meeting held from June 15 to 17.
Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Agriculture Minister, highlighted the significant participation in the meeting, with attendance from all 20 G20 member countries, invited nations, and representatives of ten international organisations. A total of 40 representatives expressed their views during the ministerial gathering.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a video message to the meeting on Friday, underscored the global challenges faced by the agriculture sector and urged the G20 Agriculture Ministers to collectively address these issues to achieve global food security. As India currently holds the presidency of the Group of 20 forum, a series of events will take place throughout the year, culminating in the leadership summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 9 to 10.
