Availability of sugar in the country is satisfactory and wholesale and retail prices have been falling in the last one month. The food ministry has allowed the export of 6 million tonnes of sugar for the current 2022-23 marketing year (October-September).
Last year, India exported a record 11 million tonnes of sugar. Sugar production has already reached 24.7 million tonnes till February of the current marketing year 2022-23. Factories have sent 4.3 million tonnes of sugar for export so far this year, he said.
Sugarcane sieving in the country is likely to end by next month. He added that the government will review the exports after evaluating the final production figures.
