ATM News Network: India is recognised as the largest fruit producing country in the world. India also exports food grains to 18 countries of the world. Honourable former Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar concluded that India has reached the number one position in horticultural production due to the agriculture-friendly policies of the central and state governments.
Sharad Pawar worshiped the first container of grapes for export after inspecting grape cultivation at Bori in Indapur taluka of Kolhapur district. He was speaking in a program organised at that time. Maharashtra Rajya Draksha Bagayatdar Sangh (MRDBS) President Shivajirao Pawar, Treasurer Sunil Pawar, Indapur MLA Dattatray Bharne, Pune District Nationalist Congress President Pradeep Gartkar, Taluka President Hanuman Kokate and others were present.
NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar said, “When I was the Chief Minister, I had started the Orchard Planting Scheme through the Employment Guarantee Scheme. National horticulture campaign was started by improving this. This benefited the farmers. Most orchards were planted in Maharashtra through this scheme. When I often go abroad, I get to see fruits from Maharashtra. India is exporting fruits to Gulf as well as European countries. This change is due to the hard work of farmers. Today, grapes are produced on a large scale in the country and are exported to foreign countries as well.”
He added that the sugar is being produced on a large scale in the country at present. India is one of the largest sugar producing countries in the world. Small farmers in Brazil have 50 thousand tons of sugarcane. In Brazil, six to seven sugarcane farmers work together to run a factory and here we have a few thousand members.
