ATM News Network: India has emerged as the world's largest milk-producing country, according to production data from the Food and Agriculture Organization's Corporate Statistics Database (FAOSTAT). In the year 2021-22, India has taken the first position in this sector, contributing 24% to global milk production.
During the last eight years from 2014-15 to 2021-22, an increase of 51% has been recorded in milk production in India, and in the year 2021-22, the milk production in the country has increased to twenty-two crore tonnes. Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Purushottam Rupala gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are the two states that produce the most milk in the country. Uttar Pradesh ranks first, Rajasthan ranks second, Madhya Pradesh ranks third, Gujarat ranks fourth and Andhra Pradesh ranks fifth. The information about this was given earlier by the National Dairy Development Board.
India is the only country in world, to do dairy farming through cooperatives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that this business can be an ideal example of industries to follow for poor countries. Women represent 70 percent of India's dairy development. Therefore, women are the real leaders of this sector, Prime Minister Modi had said this earlier in an event.
