Generating profitable agriculture business opportunities for region
ATM News Network: Lasalgaon, Niphad, Chandwad, Yewla, Chandwad, Deola, Satana, Kalwan, Malegaon, Sinnar in Nashik district, as well as Ahemadnagar and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, have emerged as prominent regions for pomegranate cultivation. Recognising the immense potential of this crop, the Lasalgaon Agriculture Market Produce Company has taken the initiative to conduct pomegranate auctions for the past nine years, enabling farmers to sell their produce efficiently.
The recent auction held on July 10 received an encouraging response from both farmers and traders. With a steady stream of pomegranates being transported daily from Nashik to various states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, and more, farmers are reaping the benefits of this market opportunity. Consequently, the pomegranate auction season has now commenced in June, offering farmers greater prospects for selling their produce.
On Monday, an impressive quantity of 300 to 400 carats of pomegranates was received for auction. The market prices varied from a maximum of Rs 5100 to a minimum of Rs 200 per carat, with an average price of Rs 2011 per carat. To facilitate the sales process, the market committee has advised pomegranate producers to grade their fruits properly and bring them in 20 kg carats. In an encouraging development, the Lasalgaon Market Committee has also introduced the option to sell pomegranates alongside onions, allowing farmers to save on transportation costs. This market committee initiative has generated favorable market prices for pomegranates, in addition to the income generated from onion sales. I am delighted to share that my pomegranates received an opening market price of Rs.5200 today.
The farmers in the region express their satisfaction with the pomegranate auction in Lasalgaon, particularly due to the availability of a dedicated market for both pomegranates and onions. The active participation of farmers, including women farmers, in today's auction further highlights the positive response. As the auction season progresses, more farmers are expected to participate, leading to an increase in income. It is anticipated that the initial average rate will also witness an upward trend, promising a profitable agriculture business for the farmers involved.
