ATM News Network: A new era of agricultural advancement takes root as the state government unveiled India's pioneering Agricultural Data Exchange (ADeX) in Hyderabad on Friday. Emerging as a digital public infrastructure (DPI) tailored for the agricultural sector, ADeX is the result of a collaborative effort between the state government, the World Economic Forum (WEF), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
The launch also brought to light the establishment of the Agriculture Data Management Framework (ADMF). The ceremonious event was graced by the presence of IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, who inaugurated both initiatives.
"The ADeX and ADMF provide a pivotal platform to ensure equitable and efficient utilization of agricultural data across industries and startups. This marks a significant leap for the data economy, particularly within the agricultural domain. By embracing innovation and technology, Telangana is leading the nation towards transformative food systems and an improved livelihood for our farmers," remarked Rama Rao.
ADeX stands as an open-source, open-standard, and interoperable public resource, democratising access to data and empowering both the public and private sectors to construct applications and render services.
Speaking on the crucial role of data and digital ecosystems, Purushottam Kaushik, Head of the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution India at WEF, asserted, "Data and digital ecosystems are indispensable for responsible innovation within the agricultural sector. The ADEx and ADMF underscore the influence of multi-stakeholder partnerships and collective endeavors in addressing intricate challenges in the realm of agriculture."
Prof G Rangarajan, Director of IISc, also expressed the transformative potential of ADeX, stating, "ADeX is set to redefine the agricultural ecosystem, propelling research and innovation while channeling data towards sustainable, eco-friendly agricultural practices."
The rollout of ADeX has initially commenced in Khammam and is slated for statewide expansion. During the launch, various agri-tech entities showcased their digital solutions, tapping into data accessed via ADeX. The exhibited solutions encompassed market advisory services, pest prediction, and streamlined credit accessibility.
Built upon meticulous consultations encompassing data protection, management, and innovation, the Agriculture Data Management Framework (ADMF) is a robust construct designed to accommodate all governmental departments involved in agricultural activities, along with users and providers of agricultural information. The framework also integrates a robust grievance redressal mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability.
Present during the event were prominent figures including Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Agriculture Secretary M Raghunandan Rao, Emerging Technologies Wing Director Ramadevi Lanka, WEF Chief Advisor J Satyanarayana, and India Urban Data Exchange Chief Executive Officer Dr Inder Gopal.
