Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), applications submitted by farmers are being subjected to strict and comprehensive verification. Each application registered on the NCIP portal is checked by insurance companies to ensure compliance with scheme guidelines, including eligibility of the insured crop, proof of land ownership or tenancy, matching of sown and insured area, and consistency of the applicant’s name with Aadhaar records.
Applications with incomplete information, missing documents, or incorrect details are rejected. As per operational guidelines, insurance companies are allowed 60 days from the cut-off date to complete the verification 31st July for Kharif and 31st December for Rabi season.
In cases where supporting documents are missing, applications are returned to the respective CSC, bank, or insurance intermediary for completion. Upon submission of the required documents within the stipulated period, the applications are accepted; otherwise, they are rejected.
Farmers aggrieved by the rejection of their applications may lodge complaints through the Kisan Rakshak Helpline (14447) or approach the taluka/district level agricultural authorities with supporting documents for reconsideration.
While there is no penalty for rejection of applications, delays in claim settlement attract penalties. Insurance companies cannot reject applications independently; final approval for rejection rests with the State Government through the National Crop Insurance Portal.
For overall monitoring of the scheme, district-level committees chaired by the District Collector and state-level committees chaired by the Principal Secretary (Agriculture) have been constituted. The 24x7 Kisan Rakshak Portal and Helpline provide assistance to farmers in registering complaints and seeking guidance.
