ATM News Network: The central government is taking strategic decisions to bring about transformation in the agriculture sector along with increasing the income of farmers. As a part of this, Niti Aayog is preparing a list of various components in the agriculture sector. This will enable states to measure the effectiveness of policy decisions in the agricultural sector.
According to a senior government official in interaction with media, states can measure the performance of policies based on seven factors: 1) agricultural investment, 2) storage capacity, 3) productivity and diversification, 4) policy, 5) conservation, 6) processing and export, and 7) farmer income and welfare. Can be done.
Niti Aayog, with the help of stakeholder ministries, has developed more than half a dozen lists, including health, education and water sustainable development indices. It helps the states to rank the measurable factors every year. The government believes that it has helped improve the overall performance of the country in various sectors.
In 2018, the government had accepted the committee's proposal to double the income of farmers. An Empowered Committee was then constituted to review and monitor progress. The committee suggested seven sources of income growth for farmers namely improving crop productivity, improving livestock productivity, utilization of resources, efficiency.
