Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged Indian farmers to embrace natural farming. He said natural farming is not just an option but a necessity for the future. Speaking about his experience at the recently concluded South India Natural Farming Summit in Coimbatore, he called the concept the centerpiece of the upcoming revolution in Indian agriculture.
In a post on X, Modi said, “Expansion of natural farming is the real demand of 21st-century agriculture.” He explained the effective role of this method in preventing soil degradation, reducing farmers’ input costs and addressing the growing challenges of climate change.
Modi urged farmers to begin in a simple but effective way: “One acre, one season.” This approach, he said, will allow farmers to experience the benefits of natural farming without making large investments. He also highlighted that agricultural colleges should include natural farming in their curriculum to prepare the next generation.
Natural farming, free from the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, is already giving promising results in many places. Soils are becoming more fertile, crops are becoming stronger and profits are becoming more stable. The government’s National Mission for Natural Farming (NMNF) is accelerating this transformation, with a target of covering 7.5 lakh hectares and benefiting one crore farmers.
This call by Prime Minister Modi is being seen as a decisive step in the long journey toward a sustainable, environmentally friendly and economically viable agricultural system for India. Natural farming is no longer just a technique, it is becoming the pillar of India’s agricultural future.
