Government Launches Integrated Plan to Boost Farmer’s Income

New Delhi: The Central Government is taking major steps to increase farmer’s income and promote sustainable growth in agriculture. To achieve this, the government is providing financial and policy support to states and Union Territories.

The government’s strategy focuses on:

• Increasing crop production and productivity
• Reducing farming costs
• Ensuring fair prices for farm produce
• Encouraging agricultural diversity
• Supporting post-harvest processing and value addition
• Promoting climate-resilient and sustainable farming to reduce crop losses

Although agriculture is mainly a state matter, the Central Government is helping states through policies and budget support. Since 2013–14, the Department of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare has received a significantly higher budget.
Several key schemes are being implemented to raise Farmer’s income, including:

• Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi
• Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
• Agriculture Infrastructure Fund
• Formation of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs)
• Namo Drone Didi
• National Mission on Natural Farming
• Per Drop More Crop
• Digital Agriculture Mission
• National Food Security Mission
• Horticulture Development Scheme
• National Bamboo Mission
