ATM News Network: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar has directed the central organisation NAFED to participate in and promote the International Year of Millets 2023. Under the direction of Tomar, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has signed a memorandum of understanding with NAFED.
Under this collaboration, NAFED will help start-ups specialising in millets to improve their market connectivity. The activities being carried out under this collaboration include a millets corner in Nafed Bazar, retail shops and a millets vending machine in Delhi Rajdhani area.
All Union ministries and state governments, as well as leading state and private food and beverage industries, should work to make IYOM-23 a people's movement and make India a global hub for millets.
In an official statement, Agriculture Minister Manoj Ahuja said the government has requested that the G20 meetings take into account the International Year of Millets-23.
Also, Ministries, Government Departments and State Governments should share experiences. Packets given out at business meetings should contain a couple of millets. Branding of millets, the inclusion of millet foods, and snacks in meals or breakfasts, display of whole grain stalls, cafes, whole grain rangolis and related materials should be ensured at the airport.
In this regard, NAFED has been entrusted with the responsibility of providing packets of specially processed coarse grains containing information on traditional values, recipes as well as the health and nutritional values of coarse grains.
NAFED in collaboration with Jodhpur Ministries of Labor and Employment during the G20 Employment Working Meeting prepared gift packs of superior quality millet. Prasar of IYM-2023 inspired the creation of these packets. And it shows a commitment to the spread of whole grains and the spread of foods based on them.
