ATM News Network: In a visit organised by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda) to know the methods and mechanisms required for export to Mumbai, Nashik and other places in Maharashtra, a group of 20 farmer producer companies from Uttar Pradesh met with agricultural produce exporters and gathered information.
The tour was flagged off by the Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma from Circuit House, Varanasi. The commissioner hoped that the FPOs who would go to Nashik, Mumbai and other places in Maharashtra to meet exporters of farm and agricultural products would train other farmers and FPOs from Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
APEDA Assistant General Manager CB Singh said that the last three years of efforts to develop Varanasi and surrounding areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh as a hub for agriculture and agricultural products have resulted in exports of three lakh metric tonnes of such products. "On an average, 3-4 metric tonnes of agricultural products including vegetables and fruits are being exported from Varanasi airport every day. He said that there are 100 FPOs registered in UP, 50 FPOs are from Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
He said, for the first time, FPOs from Eastern Uttar Pradesh have been sent to places like Nashik, Mumbai in Maharashtra, which are hubs for exporters of agricultural and horticultural products, to learn the essentials for export of agricultural products. The tour includes FPOs at Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Ghazipur, Ballia, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, Jaunpur and Kaimur (Bihar) besides Varanasi.
