ATM News Network: The CNH Industrial India has introduced a new solution using field straw management techniques. CNH Industrial India has introduced straw management techniques to help farmers in India stand with the farmers of the world by making agriculture more sustainable and profitable.
Kavita Sah, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, CNH Industrial India, says, 'Agriculture' has automatically come with the word 'culture'. Most of the farmers dispose of the field straw by burning it. But considering the environmental problems it creates, a major cultural change is needed. She talked a lot about her webisode series on agriculture.
In 2016, CNH Industrial partnered with the Union Ministry of Agriculture to select Kallar Majri, a village in Punjab, India, to pilot straw management techniques. By using this technique, all the huskiness of the soil was removed in the first year. Farmers immediately realized the benefits when they stopped the practice of burning stick-waste. Also the pollution decreased, the production also increased. Also the farmers got new income by selling these straws to power plants.
Some of the farmers involved in the webisode project have been interviewed. He says he had to overcome many challenges while adopting straw management techniques. He hopes that other farmers will follow his path. Following the initial success of this experiment launched by CNH Industrial India, the initiative has been rolled out at ten more locations, with eight more likely to be rolled out.
