ATM News Network: The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda) has expressed concern over the rise in aflatoxin levels in peanuts and processed peanut products exported from the country.
In a letter sent to exporters, Apeda said significant levels of aflatoxin have been detected in goods exported to Singapore, Russia, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and the European Union. Apeda has also appealed to follow the guidelines laid down by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
Apeda said that failure to comply with these rules will lead to serious action including cancellation of accreditation of groundnut and groundnut processing companies, as well as other penalties as per government regulations.
Apeda has received complaints about high levels of aflatoxin in exported peanuts and processed peanut products. Violation of norms established by DGFT and Apeda has been concluded.
