ATM News Network: Onion, grape, wheat, gram, mango, and banana orchards have been affected due to stormy rains in North Maharashtra including Dhule and Nashik. The rains are likely to hit the other parts of the state. The unseasonal rains are witnessed due to the creation of a favourable environment for rain even in March.
As the temperature has risen to 37 degrees in many parts of the state, the scorching heat has become unbearable. Due to the creation of an environment conducive to rain, the farmers' concern has increased.
Northern Maharashtra witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by lightning on Monday early morning. The Mango and Cashew orchards in the Palghar district were harmed as the Mohar or flowers fell due to gusty winds and intense rains. The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) had already alerted the farmers about the change in weather conditions. The overall destruction due to unseasonal rains can only be calculated after a survey by the authorities said farmers in the region.
The IMD has predicted that isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra from the 4th to 6th, over Marathwada on the 5th & 6th and over Vidarbha from the 5th to 7th March 2023, will witness light to moderate rains with thunderstorms. It is advised to keep the harvested produce at safer places. Provide mechanical support to young fruit plants and vegetables to prevent the crops from lodging due to strong winds. Avoid standing in the open or working in the fields and keep farm animals indoors during thunderstorm/lightning periods.
A low-pressure belt has formed from South Konkan to North Madhya Maharashtra. Due to the cyclonic winds blowing over North Gujarat and the Southwest Rajasthan area, the state has created an environment conducive to rain with gale-force winds.
The Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorms in the states of Nashik, Nagar, Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Buldana, Akola, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia.
Unseasonal rains lashed the Nashik district along with gusty winds, lightning and thunder in several places on Monday morning. Wheat and gram crops have been damaged due to stormy winds. Grapes have been harvested in the district and there is a possibility of damage due to rain.
